TIPS FOR BETTER DENTAL HEALTH
by Dr. Steve

It's now proven that in addition to preventing severe dental disease, simple, routine brushing of your pet's teeth can also prevent serious heart and kidney problems. It also improves your pet's breath. Here's a few tips for better dental health:

1. Feed a good quality dry dog / cat food and provide chew toys to help remove tarter.
2. Begin to brush your pets teeth. By using either a finger toothbrush or a
pet toothbrush and a pet toothpaste twice weekly.

Giving your pet good dental health is easier then you think and will help add years to the life of your best friend.

TANK TIPS
by Jenn

One of the most important aspects of fish keeping is ensuring that your fish have a complete diet. Proper nutrition results in a longer life span, better disease resistance and a greater chance of breeding. Always feed a variety of foods and remember to feed the fish not the aquarium. Bottom feeders may require a sinking type pellet and larger fish may not get enough nutrition from flakes. Always avoid feeding old or outdated foods. Once beyond the shelf life, fat contents may become rancid and vitamin content may be destroyed. If you're not sure how old your food is, throw it away and buy new food. GROOMING TIPS
by Terry

Warning: Frequent bathing can make your pet "STINK."

Now that I have your attention, here is the reason why your pet may not smell like a daisy. Bathing your dog or cat once a week is entirely too often, unless it's prescribed by your vet for a skin problem, etc. A good bath every six to eight weeks is sufficient as long as you give him a thorough brushing and combing two or three times a week.

A wire slicker brush works well on both long and short hair breeds. And, don't forget to run a comb through the hair you just brushed! Purchase a comb that has wide spaced teeth on top, and smaller spaced teeth on the bottom. The wide part of the comb is great for thick undercoats, and the other side is great for all the "sneaky " places that give your pet tangles and mats. Matting can occur behind the ears, under the armpits and inner thighs, and the underside of the tail. By brushing and combing, you remove dead hair and this helps to stimulate the skin by letting the natural oils produce a clean, glossy coat. Don't for get to check the ears for wax buildup and the teeth for tartar. A good ear wash and regular brushing of the teeth help prevent odors. For more severe problems consult your vet. Make "Grooming Time" a special time for your pet. He will love you for it, and you will love the results!

Planning Surgery for Your Yorkshire Terrier?

So many precious little Yorkshire Terriers lose their lives needlessly during routine dentals or other minor surgeries. When scheduling any surgical procedure insist on isoflurane gas. Many veterinarians use an injection of anesthesia that some Yorkies never wake up from.
